I Feel Ill

Last Wednesday Republicans in the House of Representatives narrowly passed something they call the AHCA.

Ever since, I’ve felt like the underside of a turnip green. And what’s worse, the more I’m exposed to this putrid bill, the more my symptoms multiply.

It started with the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office stating that the less extreme version of the bill would leave 24 million Americans uninsured.

A knot tied tightly in my stomach.

AHCA allows the elderly to be charged 5 times more than younger patients for the same coverage, strips 8 million dollars from medicaid including special education, cuts funding for Planned Parenthood, and guts safeguards against catastrophic costs for people with coverage through large employer plans across several states.

I’m now feeling anxiety, depression, nausea.

After examining AHCA in its entirety and hearing many of the lawmakers who voted for the bill never bothered to read it, my diagnosis is that AHCA isn’t a "healthcare" bill at all. AHCA is, in fact, a one trillion dollar tax cut to the top 2% on the backs of the poor, the sick, and the elderly.

That left me with one persisting condition. Rage.
